Herts Masters perform well at National Open Water Champs 2019

More than 200 swimmers entered the Swim England Open Water National Masters Championships 2019 on the 1stSeptember 2019 at Nene Park near Peterborough.

Nene Park hosted the annual event for the best open water masters swimmers in the country, with 207 competitors contesting races over 2km, 3km and 5km.

Seven swimmers represented Hertfordshire clubs and Jo Mitchinson (Stevenage) returned home the champion for the Women’s 2km swimming in the 40-44 year age group Jo won in a time of 00:29.57.

Craig Kirkland (St. Albans Masters) swam in two events the men’s 5km and 3km (50-54) finishing 2ndplace in the 5km in a time of 01:18.20 and 5thin the 2km in a time of 51:42.

Bishop’s Stortford’s Helen Shingler finished 2ndin the women’s 5km (50-54) in a time of 01:31.17.

Hilary Coulson (Hemel Hempstead) finished in 3rdplace in the women’s 3km (50-54) in a time of 01:00.36.  Elanor Cadzow (Bishop’s Stortford) also finished 3rdin the women’s 2km (25-29 age group) in a time of 00:42.05.  In the same event Louise Hughes (Hitchin) finished in 4thplace in a time of 00:53.50.

Hitchin’s Lee Portingale finished in 4thplace in the men’s 5km (40-44) in a time of 01:42.31.
