Watford’s William Fawcett takes bronze in National Open Water 2k Championships

The Swim England Open Water National Age Group Championships is the premiere competition for young open water swimmers in England. The Championships contain races over three distances: 2km, 3km and 5km. Age groups 12 and 13 yrs compete over 2km, 14 and 15 yrs compete over 3km, while 16, 17/18 and 19+ yrs complete the 5km course.

The 2019 Championships were held at Thrybergh Country Park, Rotherham on Monday 5th August, 2019. SE Hertfordshire had two clubs represented: Watford and Hatfield competing in all three distances.

Watford’s William Fawcett competed in the 12 year old boys 2k finishing in 3rd place in a time of 26:27 closely behind Loan James from Bridgeend City who finished in a time of 26:25 and the winner James Raw was from Ellesmere Co who took the gold medal with a time of 25:42.

William’s coach Jack Jackson said “We are very proud of William and his performance in the 2k which was brilliant, it was so close. We also want to thank Jeremy for being an awesome open water coach and Josie for her amazing coaching sessions when William is in the pool”.

Other Herts swimmers included Hatfield’s Billie Grant competing in the 17-18 year old girls finished in 13th place in a time of 1:07:08); Ahaan Saini competing in the 15 year old boys 3k finished in 23rd place in a time of 40:54 and Antonia Jubb competing in the 14 year old girls 3k finished in a time of 40:59 in 25th place.
